NEET UG 2024 Hearing Live Updates: Supreme Court Postpones Hearing on Alleged Paper Leak to July 18
The Supreme Court’s scheduled hearing on petitions challenging the alleged paper leak in NEET UG 2024 has been postponed to July 18. Chief Justice D Y Chandrachud will preside over the bench to consider multiple petitions concerning irregularities reported during the May 5 medical entrance exam. These petitions seek redress, including the possibility of conducting a fresh examination. During the previous hearing on July 8, the Supreme Court expressed concerns over the integrity of NEET UG 2024.
In an additional affidavit submitted recently, the Centre informed the Supreme Court that, following its directives, the Ministry of Education has tasked IIT Madras with conducting comprehensive data analytics on the results of NEET UG 2024 candidates.
NEET UG 2024 Highlights
- The Centre assured the Supreme Court on Wednesday that there is no substantial evidence indicating widespread cheating or undue advantages to specific groups of candidates through abnormal score distributions in NEET UG 2024.
- According to the Centre’s supplementary affidavit, experts from IIT Madras conducted detailed data analytics on the results, revealing a marks distribution pattern consistent with the typical bell-shaped curve observed in large-scale exams, suggesting no irregularities.
- The Centre also disclosed in its affidavit that the counselling process for undergraduate seats for the academic year 2024-25 will commence in four rounds starting from the third week of July.
- Meanwhile, the National Testing Agency (NTA), responsible for conducting NEET UG, submitted a separate affidavit to the Supreme Court detailing their analysis of marks distribution across national, state, city, and centre levels for NEET UG 2024.
- NEET UG 2024 witnessed participation from 23.33 lakh students on May 5 across 4,750 centres in 571 cities, including 14 cities overseas.
- Previous affidavits from both the Centre and NTA argued against cancelling NEET UG, emphasizing potential adverse impacts on lakhs of honest candidates in the absence of evidence supporting widespread breaches of confidentiality.
- NEET UG, administered by the NTA, serves as the gateway examination for admissions into MBBS, BDS, AYUSH, and other allied courses offered by government and private institutions nationwide.
Stay tuned for further updates as the Supreme Court continues to deliberate on the matter, ensuring fairness and transparency in the NEET UG 2024 examination process.
