How to Get MCI Eligibility Certificate to Study MBBS Abroad?
If you are an Indian citizen and looking to pursue your MBBS degree from abroad (MBBS in Abroad), then you must know that MCI Eligibility Certificate is necessary for it. In this article, we will discuss why it is required and how you can get the certificate, and the requirements for the same.
The MCI was founded with an aim to provide and standardize the higher qualifications in the medical field, in the year 1934. The main reason behind establishing the MCI statutory body was providing the recognition of the medical qualifications in India and Foreign countries.
The Medical Council of India also imparts the provisional or permanent registration of doctors in the country, who have qualified medical certificates from Universities recognized by MCI. It has done a mutual recognition between India and other foreign countries for providing and conforming to the medical qualifications. As a result, now there are several Government affiliated medical universities in various foreign countries that are recognized by MCI.
Due to the shortage of affordable seats in Medical Colleges in India, students tend to move abroad to pursue their higher education. It is suggested for the candidates who are willing to take admission abroad must verify the current state of the University before applying for it. You can check the status of any medical University with the MCI official website. If you can see the name of the University is present on its platform, then it means, the University is genuine and is approved by MCI.
As an Indian Student, if you are seeking to pursue MBBS from any foreign country, you need a No Objection Certificate from MCI. Additionally, all the necessary documents including mark-sheets and certificates are compulsory to be attested and verified by the Department of Ministry of External Affairs.
Also after the graduation of a student, to become eligible for appearing in the Foreign Medical Graduate Examination(FMGE), it is necessary for the candidates to have an Eligibility Certificate provided by the Medical Council of India.
To file an application to MCI for obtaining the Eligibility Certificate, the applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Pass the necessary qualifying exam – 10+2 standard in Science, if the candidate is an Indian.
- If the candidate is Indian but has passed some exam from another country, then that examination must be equivalent to India’s exam.
- Applicants are required to have at least 50% marks if belong to the general category and 40% marks, if the candidate is from the reserved category in the main subjects of Science Stream i.e. Physics, Chemistry, Biology, English.
